Meralco boosts power infrastructure in Batangas

MANILA Electric Company (Meralco), led by Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan, continues to strengthen and modernize its power facilities in Batangas
as the province’s demand for a stable and reliable electricity supply grows.
Among the company’s major investments in the province is the Pallocan West Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation, a modern facility worth approximately ₱450 million and equipped with smart grid technology designed to improve power quality and operational efficiency.
The substation forms part of Meralco’s continuing efforts to modernize its distribution network and ensure that its facilities can keep up with the changing needs of its customers.
According to company data, Meralco recorded its best System Average Interruption
Frequency Index (SAIFI) and System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)
performance in 2025, reflecting improvements in the reliability of its distribution system.
The Pallocan West GIS Substation supplies electricity to several government offices and major establishments in Batangas City, including the Office of the Vice Governor, Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk, Evaluation, Alleviation and Mitigation Zone, BIR District Office- Batangas City, and Batangas City Hall of Justice.
It also supports major commercial and healthcare establishments such as SM City
Batangas, Wilcon Depot Batangas, United Doctors of St. Camillus de Lellis Hospital and Medical Center, Jesus of Nazareth Hospital Batangas, Days Hotel by Wyndham Batangas, and Pontefino Hotel and Residences.
Aside from strengthening its infrastructure, Meralco has also been working to improve customer service. From January to June 2026, the company recorded an average connection time of 2.23 days, compared with 2.38 days during the same period in 2025, representing a 6.3 percent improvement.
Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Strategic Distribution Utility Partnerships Arnel D. Casanova said the company continues to invest in technology and infrastructure to improve service and prepare its distribution system for future demand.
One of these investments is the rollout of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which is intended to further modernize the way electricity consumption is monitored and managed.
The company said these efforts are aimed at building a distribution system that can address Batangas’ present electricity requirements while remaining ready for future technological developments and economic growth.
Meralco also expressed its readiness to work with local government units, electric
cooperatives, and communities in strengthening the province’s power infrastructure.
At present, Meralco serves customers in Sto. Tomas, Batangas City, and San Pascual. The company said it intends to continue strengthening its contribution to these communities while remaining open to opportunities to support other areas of Batangas in the future.
