10 Cities, towns get special holidays this month

RESIDENTS in 10 cities and municipalities will enjoy special non-working days this October as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued proclamations allowing locals to take part in town fiestas, festivals and historical commemorations.

The special holidays cover different dates from Oct. 7 to 29, with each locality celebrating its own milestone or annual event.

The first is Malita, Davao Occidental, which will observe a special non-working day on Oct. 7 for its town fiesta under Proclamation No. 1467.

This will be followed by San Isidro, Surigao del Norte, on Oct. 9 for its 67th founding anniversary, and Talisay, Batangas, on Oct. 12 to commemorate the Battle of Batangas.

On Oct. 16, residents of Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur will have a special non-working day for the municipality’s 69th founding anniversary.

Batac, Ilocos Norte will observe a holiday on Oct. 20 in honor of the 160th birth anniversary of Gen. Artemio Ricarte.

Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi will follow on Oct. 21 for its founding anniversary.

Two areas will observe special non-working days on Oct. 23. These are Angeles City, for the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan Festival, and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, for the observance of Aldaw Ti Wayawaya-lli A Narvacan.

On Oct. 28, Dingle, Iloilo will mark the Cry of Lincud, described in the proclamation as the first declaration of revolution against Spain in Iloilo province and Panay.

Rounding out the list is Mati City, Davao Oriental, which will observe a special non-working day on Oct. 29 for the Sambuokan Festival.

The proclamations said the special holidays are intended to give residents ample opportunity to participate in the celebrations and commemorative activities in their respective communities.

Acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto signed the proclamations on behalf of President Marcos.
